WHO WE ARE
Founded in the name of human rights defender and Stonewall icon Marsha P. Johnson, the Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) was established in response to the murders of BLACK trans women and our exclusion from social justice issues. MPJI protects and defends the human rights of BLACK transgender people.
We are continuing the legacy of our namesake, mother Marsha, by championing support and solutions for BLACK trans people in the US. We do this by organizing, advocating, creating fellowships, building strategic campaigns, offering direct-relief support, and interrupting the people who are standing in the way of a more just world for BLACK trans people, and all people. MPJI is a space that exists for the sole purpose of bettering the BLACK trans community across the diaspora.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) protects and defends the human rights of BLACK transgender people. We do this by organizing, advocating, creating an intentional community to heal, developing transformative leadership, and promoting our collective power.
