Pride 2023
Welcome to another year of Pride. Each year during the month of June we celebrate Pride around the world to honor the LGBTQ rights movement, mark the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, and celebrate and honor ourselves and those who came before us, paving the way for us to live and fully exist in the world as our most authentic selves.
This year, we’re sitting at the intersection of having trans joy, having trans breath, life, liberation and interruption. That interruption is the onslaught of political violence in the form of anti-trans laws and proposed legislation across the country. We are in need of a revival. We are in need of action.
A Revival of Love is a reminder that the transgender community has always stood as a beacon of love; beginning with our own self-love and flow through to our collective love, both which are needed to shine light on the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
A Revival of Love is necessary because our humanity is under attack. Deadly, anti-trans laws, vigilante violence, resistance to our humanity and oppressive rhetoric not only inflict harm upon our community, but create conditions that make it difficult for us to live and thrive as human beings.
A Revival of Love is what Marsha P. Johnson would have continued to call for as she left a legacy of boldness, love, kindness, caring for her community, and an unapologetic sense of self. It is our responsibility to continue to take action and move the movement forward.
End Anti-Trangender Legislative Violence Now!
We continue to see a rapid increase in anti-trans actions and legislative efforts nationwide. As of May 11, 2023, there were over 541 anti-transgender bills being introduced across 49 states, with nearly 70 percent of them actively progressing through legislatures. These bills represent a dangerous attack on the rights and dignity of transgender people, particularly BLACK transgender individuals already facing disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and marginalization.
