Chastity Bowick
Chastity Bowick is an award-winning activist, civil rights leader, and transgender health advocate who has dedicated her career to empowering transgender and gender-nonconforming communities. She led the Transgender Emergency Fund of Massachusetts for seven years, opening New England’s first trans transitional home, and now heads Chastity’s Consulting & Talent Group, LLC. In 2026, she became Executive Director of the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, continuing her mission to advance equity, safety, and opportunity for trans people. Her leadership has earned her numerous honors recognizing her impact on social justice and community care.

MPJI was built on revolution. Elle Moxley’s leadership laid the foundation of unapologetic truth-telling and survival for BLACK trans people. Chastity steps forward not to replace that legacy, but to carry it forward as part of one continuous story.
The Vision
“Unity is community. Unity creates change.”
Chastity’s guiding principle is Unity in Community. She calls for breaking down divisions, like gatekeeping, respectability politics, and bias. They weaken the movement. Unity is not sameness; it is respect across difference so the community can stand stronger together.
The Future
“Investing in Trans futures is investing in the livelihood of the nation. When we survive, everyone survives.”
Chastity imagines gatherings that feel like revivals and family reunions. Joy-filled spaces where resources are exchanged and futures are planned. Programs like Pride Ambassadors and an expanded We Cares initiative will extend MPJI’s reach into overlooked communities, fueling housing, healthcare, education, and employment.

Chastity’s vision centers on bringing harmony. Balancing past and future, honoring what was built while boldly stepping into the next chapter. Harmony means creating spaces where people can show up whole, be seen, and know they belong.
